Independence is structural, not a slogan
An institute that examines how decision-making power concentrates cannot be quiet about its own funding. Our credibility depends on it. So we hold ourselves to commitments we can be checked against:
We disclose. We name our funders and keep that information public and current.
We cap concentration. No single funder provides more than a defined share of our income, so that no one source can quietly set our agenda.
We draw boundaries with industry money. Because part of our work is to examine the largest AI developers, we define in advance which activities will never be undertaken in exchange for funding — and we will say no to money that comes with the wrong conditions, however large.
We separate the strands. Our public research is funded to be independent. Our foresight work is clearly labelled and never sold as settled fact.
Independence isn’t the absence of funding. It’s the discipline of being honest about it.
